Joining Our School

For more information please view Devon County Council’s admissions information.

Pre-school provision
As well as having our own fantastic pre-school provision on site known as ‘The Cubs’, we have links with The Folly and Pink Hippos. Children transferring to the Reception class from any of the local pre-schools will have an informal visit by the lead teacher of the Reception and Pre-school to aid transition as well as the opportunity to join in with summer transition events.

Entry into Reception
Parents will need to complete a Common Application form from the home Local Authority for admission to Primary School.  For Devon residents, this is the D-CAF1, available from www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline or by calling 0845 155 1019.  Dorset residents should contact www.dorsetforyou.com/schooladmissions.
Note that the admission limit set by the Governors for September 2017 is 12

Entry to Secondary School
Children from Shute Primary transfer to the Woodroffe School, Axe Valley Community College or Colyton Grammar. We have very close links with all of our feeder Secondary Schools and a full transition programme takes place during Year 6. Parents will need to complete a Common Application form from the local authority for transfer to Secondary School. For Devon residents, this is the D-CAF3, available from www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline or by calling 0845 155 1019.  Dorset residents should contact www.dorsetforyou.com/schooladmissions.

In Year Admissions
If you are planning to move your child during the year then all applications must be made in line with Devon LA’s In Year co-ordinated Admissions Scheme. Further information and application forms are available from the school or the Local Authority admissions team (0845 1551019).

We welcome visits from prospective parents. Please contact the school office to arrange a convenient time.
All in year applications must be made in line with Devon’s In-Year Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme.
A waiting list will be kept by the Local Authority for each Year Group. Waiting lists will be kept in order of the oversubscription criteria in the admissions policy. Places on lists will not be prioritised according to how long a child’s name has been on the list.
